Former Miss America finally gets a degree.

Well chances are she didnt use a dime of her scholarship money....

Vanessa Williams will be awarded her degree from Syracuse University this Spring and she is also scheduled to also give the commencement address to the graduates. Many of you probably recall Vanessa dropped out after winning her state pageant as Miss Syracuse and then went on to win Miss America. But.... then came her little nude photo problem and she had to relinquish her crown.

Thats OK. I think she's done pretty well. She does have that star on the walk of fame that they gave her last year, a couple Grammy's, and a hit TV show. I'd say thats a pretty good trade.

Now I wonder if she will recite that stupid Robert Frost poem in her speech???

Former Miss Fayetteville has her day in court

Depending on who you ask, the trial of former Miss Fayetteville Jenna Walters could have been more a waste of time then watching two hours of that new "Speed Racer" movie.

Miss Walters was back in court this week on charges stemming from her road rage incident a couple months ago.

Walters relinquished her crown in March of this year after crowning her successor.
Walters was lucky, The Miss America Organization decided not take a crown based on what was charged as a simple traffic ticket. If the incident had been wrote up as an assault with a motor vehicle things would have been alot more serious.

Just to recap, Walters chased another girl, Angela Thomas, down US 15-501 with her car and at one point swerved and hit the other vehicle in an attempt to get her to stop. Some accounts even say she got out of her vehicle and was seen hitting the other vehicles hood and window with her fist. Then she left the scene of the accident only to do a U-turn and come back.

An off-duty NC State Trooper witnessed the incident and had the two ladies pull over until police could arrive at the scene.

When all was said and done, Moore County District Court Judge gave Walters a Prayer for Judgement and ordered that she not have any contact with the woman she had assaulted with her car. No word on if he also gave her a lollipop.

Little Miss Texas FLDS Pageant cancelled

Due to the recent raid on the Texas FLDS Compound, this years Little Miss Texas FLDS Pageant will have to be cancelled. Pageant Director Mary Jeffs said, "When the government came in and took our children they did more than compromise our way of life, they essentially stole our contestants." One theory of why the over 400 children were taken from the Texas compound was that a local Eldorado County official's wife was the owner of a rival pageant system.

The FLDS children were slated to compete in the pageant in the areas of beauty and evening gown which would feature the contestants in full length cotton dresses. Swimsuit which would also feature the girls in full length cotton dresses. And talent which of course they would be performing in full length cotton dresses.

One change to this years pageant that had created quite a controversy within the FLDS community was the allowance of contestants hair to be worn down instead of the traditional up-do that has been part of the pageant for decades. Long time supporter Edith Jeffs said, "Those girls that want to wear their hair down are simply harlots and need to be punished as such."

Former recent Majestic winners of the Little Miss Texas FLDS Pageant include Allison Jeffs 07, Delilah Jeffs '06 , and Hannah Jeffs who won in 2005. And you may also remember the controversial win by Rebecca Jeffs in 2004 when it was discovered that Rebecca had tweezed her eyebrows before the pageant. She was later disqualified and the title was given up to her half sister Margaret Jeffs who was first runner up that year.

Former Miss America hates Wal-Mart

In the middle of his new film, "Wal-Mart Nation", Toronto-based Andrew Munger quotes a member of an Arkansas group called "Against the Wal" saying, "We'd all be a lot better off if Wal-Mart was less greedy." That pretty much epitomizes Munger's film, which has been shown thus far only to Canadian audiences -- but opens this coming week in a couple of American film festivals. Munger borrows a few iconic American symbols -- like Miss America, and former Presidential candidate John Edwards -- to reveal the underside of Wal-Mart Canada.

The film "Wal-Mart Nation" opens at the Fayetteville, Arkansas Annual Shareholders' meeting, with thousands of chanting employees and investors. Munger interviews Arkansas residents about the huge retailer, asking one woman in a soccer Mom t-shirt, how she feels about all the controversy surrounding Wal-Mart. "I wasn't aware there was," she says flatly. The narrator adds: "Wal-Mart's best allies are its customers: average folks in search of a bargain."

Former Miss America, Carolyn Sapp, is shown working a bullhorn in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Las Vegas. "We know that they abuse women and men -- their hard-working employees," Sapp says. After reading of the massive class action lawsuit filed on behalf of 1.6 million Wal-Mart female workers, Carolyn Sapp found her mission. "You know what? This is abuse. It's not physical abuse, but it's emotional abuse. Its time we as consumers say: Wait a second. Why are we all supporting the wealthiest corporation in America if they don't treat their women with dignity?" Sapp found a good use for her beauty pageant crown. "If I can use the Miss America title to entice people to learn about this, and to educate them, then it's OK. There's a good use to the Miss American title."

There's even some American presidential politics in this film -- though not where you'd expect it. Munger does not focus on Hillary Clinton, who sat on Wal-Mart's board of directors, and is seated in a 1990 photo between Sam Walton and David Glass as the only woman on the board. "Wal-Mart Nation" rolls a clip of former Presidential candidate John Edwards recounting the day his six year old son Jack told the family his brother Alex had gotten new shoes. "That's bad," young Jack explains. "He got them at Wal-Mart. They're bad to their workers." Then Edwards adds, "If a six year old can understand it, America can understand it."

Wal-Mart Nation was produced by Ultramagnetic Productions in association with the CBC. DVDs of the film are available from www.walmartnation.com. The film will had its first American screenings at the Oxford, Ohio Film Festival, April 11 & 13, and will be featured at the Independent Spirit Film Festival on April 26th in Colorado Springs, CO.

Can't we all just get along

This years Miss Independence 2008 Pageant on the island of St. Lucia was marred by violence when the winner Tracy Modeste was crowned. Tracy Modeste is the first ever Miss Independence pageant winner to come from the southern village of Choiseul.

Contrary to the show’s message, the pageant bent on promoting peace, one of the commonwealth values that promoter Gregory Lord believes in wholeheartedly ended on a violent note. The pageant ended with a bloody fight caused by dissatisfaction by supporters at the end result. Lord revealed this was the first year any participant from Choiseul had taken part in the Independence pageant. Pageant winner Tracy Modeste represented the community and for her talent performed a skit asking for peace within all constituencies of St Lucia.

"She’d just done a skit about peace, yet her people were causing the disturbance," Lord said. "The people on the committee were saying that since it was the first time they’d taken part and it was distasteful to see them create such a stir. It wasn’t young people; most were mature citizens who should know better. Instead of doing something to help the situation they added fuel to the fire."

"The incident had nothing to do with pageant organizers," Lord said. "It happened after the pageant, after the queen was crowned and the judges and most people had already left. The fight happened right in front of where judges were." Lord maintained that the incident took nothing away from the show.

Pageant winner Tracy Modeste said that she was disappointed that a pageant promoting peace and love would end so negatively. "I was very happy when I was crowned Miss Independence, I represented my community and put 120 percent and in the end, got the result I wanted," said Tracy Modeste. "I was confident so I was hoping I’d win.

"I had a lot of support, my community, my family," she went on. "When the fight started I was being interviewed and I’m not sure how it happened. One person tried to hit my aunt. I don’t know who’s fault it was but I put the blame on the organizer; it was a national event, there should have been security."

Miss White America Beauty Pageant hails controversy

TheSpoof.com

The Miss White America Beauty Pageant has come under criticism because it is felt that is too racist and unfair to Hispanic, black, native American and Asian women to exclude them from the competition.

Peter Liberal, who is a leading activist in anything that will mean people will listen to him, and is white himself, said "This is just wrong. Once again the whites of America are excluding fellow American's because of race. It is disgusting and I demand a boycott."

The Miss White America pageant is a competition for young White American women in areas such as speech, talent, style, and poise - essentially the white version of the popular Miss America pageant, which is open to all.

"Scandalous" stormed the Reverend Al Sharpton "I demand that this competition be scrapped. It is quite clearly racist."

Organizer Baker Leavitt is considering scrapping the show.

"It was meant to be the opening show for the new White Entertainment Television Channel (WET) and was to coincide with White History month - I didn't realize that this would cause so much controversy."

The story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.

Miss SC USA plans to work for Big Mac

While some people probably believe Miss Teen SC USA Caitlyn Upton will probably work at a McDonalds someday, Miss SC USA 2007 Ashley Zais plans to work for Republican Presidential Nominee, Senator John McCain. Well you have to admit McCain and Ronald McDonald are pretty close. Both are very old, both wear alot of make-up, and both are clowns. Although I am pretty sure Ronald never dropped bombs on the villages of innocent woman and children and therefore he was never held hostage in Nam. Although don't forget that Hamburgular has spent some time in the hole.

Miss Zais, the 2007 Miss SC USA, is a graduate of Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Just in case you are wondering, Wofford's mascot is a Terrier. Needless to say Ashley was hired because she is no dog. However, she will be working like a dog for Team McCain as the campaigns National Intern Coordinator. My only question, even though I am a registered Democrat, "Where do I sign up?" I'd like to bring her a hot coffee and doughnut and then kinda see where it goes.

Hey Ashley, "Call Me" ; )
What? Interns don't get paid... Nevermind.

Thats a fabulous fur....

BizJournal.com

It's hard to imagine anyone watching the coats in the Miss USA pageant as closely as Donna and Jim Salyers.

That's because the pageant's 15 semi-finalists each wore a Fabulous-Fur from Covington, Kentucky's Donna Salyers' Fabulous-Furs company.

The contestants showed off the faux furs while rock band Finger Eleven played their hit song "Paralyzer" before an estimated worldwide viewing audience of 250 million.

Salyers and her husband, developer Jim Salyers, watched together as the company's designs appeared on each of the semi-finalists.

"I was absolutely thrilled when the Miss Universe Organization contacted us," she said in the release. "There are hundreds of companies they could call for beautiful coats, and it's just fabulous that they chose Fabulous-Furs."

Salyers has a history of pulling off creative placements.

A steady stream of celebrity clients, television shows and magazines have showcased the faux fur products her company sells. She even sewed a faux fur bikini for use on the cover of Sports Illustrated's February 2004 swimsuit edition.

MTV filming the NE American Queen Pageant

Amber Atkins get ready for your close-up!!!

Connie Wallace, National Director for the American Queen Pageant dropped me an email to let me know that MTV was coming to film their NorthEast American Queen Pageant on May 18th.

Connie is no stranger to having MTV at her events. MTV has filmed her Mid-Western Regional Pageant in St. Louis before. No word on why they are filming random pageants, but my guess is that its probably for another episode of "True Life: I wanna be a Beauty Queen" or perhaps they are starting another season of "Tiara Girls".

If you're interested in finding out more about American Queen, check out their website here. And if you know why they are coming comment below!

Ms. Wheelchair Virginia

FISHERSVILLE VA-
Rose Williams of Charlottesville, VA was named Ms. Wheelchair Virginia Saturday night.

Ms. Williams is a published writer and motivational speaker. Her platform includes promoting art opportunities as well as accessibility and safety in public places. So basically her platform is promoting platforms.... Hey, I get it! I was an art major too!

Rose was one of nine contestants to compete in the on-stage portion of the competition Saturday which was held at the Woodrow Wilson Rehab Center. The contest included private interviews with the judges and a tabletop display on each contestant's life and accomplishments. Contestants were judged on their advocacy and accomplishments, as well as self-confidence and speaking ability.

That reminds me of that Brady Bunch episode when they had to make the volcano for the science fair and the volcano went off and got Marsha covered in mud and....... Sorry I know that has nothing to do with pageants, but you got to admit that was a funny Brady Bunch episode. Not as funny as the one when Marsha got hit in the nose with the football, but probably at least the second funniest....

Anyway back to the pageant. Runners-up in the competition or should that be Rollers-up in the competition included India Sims of Waynesboro and Emily McGrail of Pulaski County. Nikki Swann also received the H. Wayne Sale Scholarship Award. And in addition to winning the crown, Rose Williams also received the Ms. Congeniality title. You don't see that happen alot in pageants!!

During the pageant, Williams spoke of her dad's influence on her life, specifically talking of his fight for her to be allowed in a regular classroom when she was little. Williams was born with cerebral palsy.

"I was so inspired by my father that I have dedicated most of my life opening doors for others," Rose said. "As Ms. Wheelchair Virginia, I will be a living, breathing automatic door for those that are disabled to live an independent life and to pursue their dreams."

For On-stage Question Williams had to name the top three people she'd like to invite to dinner. (hmmm Some judge must have checked out one of those "What to ask in pageant interview" books from the 80's ) Rose's answers, Martin Luther King Jr., her grandmother, and her father.

"Martin Luther King, because I was so inspired by his advocacy and what he stood for ... my grandmother, if she was here I would thank her for everything that she taught me as a Christian and as a person, and my father, who's my inspiration," she said.

Why did I post this story? Well as yet another example to all of you that pageants come in all shapes and sizes. Not all of them are just for pretty little girls. Plus I thought the platform about Platforms thing was pretty funny! Lighten up people! I guarantee you Rose does! Oh and if you don't think laughing at people with Cerebral Palsy is funny you're also wrong. Here is a Josh Blue video to prove to you that people with CP can be funny!

Hey Heather Mills, BOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

Heather Mills was loudly booed as she was introduced as a judge at the Miss USA 2008 Pageant just days after telling the world, "When I'm in America, it's 99 per cent positive."

It was Heather's first major public appearance since her 25 million pounds (thats UK dollars, not a really good diet) divorce settlement from Sir Paul McCartney. And the 40-year-old former model was visibly upset when a section of the audience at the Planet Hollywood Hotel on Las Vegas's famous Strip began jeering on Friday night. She shook her head as the hecklers mocked her during a live broadcast of the beauty pageant, hosted by Donny and Marie Osmond.

The booing came just days after Heather appeared on GMTV boasting about her popularity Stateside. But the jeering which could be heard throughout the auditorium sent a clear message that Americans have been unwilling to forgive her behaviour during, and after, her divorce. Afterwards she put on a brave face. Talking to the Sunday Mirror, she said: "I really enjoyed myself. It was a great contest.

"If there was some negative reaction, what can you do? There will always be people like that." She was then dragged away by her bodyguard.

Heather headed to the Miss USA after-party in the VIP lounge of Planet Hollywood's nightclub and was later spotted in its Japanese restaurant Koi. But by midnight she was back in bed.

A spokesman for Miss USA said of the booing: "We do not have a comment. We were pleased to have Heather participate on our panel." During the live broadcast Heather managed to ignore the jeering and talk about how she had once taken part in a beauty contest.

She told the audience: "Twenty five years ago I did one of these competitions. It's a lot of work and people don't understand that. It is a really difficult job to work, to be out there and to be brave enough to stand in front of all these people."

Last week Heather was interviewed on GMTV by Fiona Phillips who asked about her public image. She said, "Well, you know, it's crazy, as any sort of high-profile person that gets in this situation knows. But, when I'm in America, it's ninety-nine per cent positive. They're very much, you know, you overcome adversity, you get on with it. I get a huge amount of support from the public and a lot of people are very behind David versus Goliath sort of situations where you're fighting the Establishment."

The winner of the Miss USA title was 26-year-old Crystle Stewart, of Missouri City, Texas.

When she's not strutting around in a tiny bikini or on modelling assignments, Crystle runs a party planning and motivational speaking company. She said she wants to dedicate her life to "international philanthropy" and to spread her message of self-improvement to young women - which makes a change from looking after children and campaigning for world peace.

The judging panel also included comedian Rob Schneider and US Olympic swimmer Amanda Beard.

Miss Va contestant knows how to be a hooker.

A lot of female college students take a few weeks off for Spring Break to hang out in Cancun, Ft.Lauderdale, or some other warm location. They spend the week drinking, entering wet T-shirt contests, and a host of other forms of debauchery that their parents probably wouldn't approve of.

Well this year a Miss Virginia contestant, Laura Pennington, decided to go one step further and spent her time inside The Chicken Ranch, the famous and legal brothel located 60 miles outside of Las Vegas. Pennington did so with dozen of her classmates from Randolph College, a small liberal arts school located in Lynchburg, Virginia. Until recently the school was all female. The trip was part of an American Culture class.

The class also made sure to take in "Jubilee" one of Vegas's longest running topless show. So mom and dad, how do you really feel about writing that tuition check for your little baby girl?

Read more about Laura and her classes erotic adventures here on MSNBC.

And see Laura and the rest of the Virginia beauties on the Miss Virginia website.

She's My Cherry Pie

MAO PR - Miss America 2008 Kirsten Haglund will participate in one of Washington's fondest traditions, the 2008 Parade of the National Cherry Blossom Festival this Saturday, April 12. The parade march travels along Constitution Avenue between 7th and 17th Street passing the Washington Monument and The White House.

Kirsten will be among the celebrities to greet over 100,000 spectators. Loved by all ages, this parade is in its 96th year and celebrates the 3,000 Cherry Trees in full bloom that were a gift to the people of Washington from Tokyo in 1912.

Giant inflatable balloons, marching bands, and performers will burst down Constitution Avenue in an energy-filled spectacle of music and showmanship seen only once a year during the National Cherry Blossom Festival. Miss America 2008 Kirsten Haglund will be singing "Over the Rainbow".

The 2008 Parade of the National Cherry Blossom Festival will be broadcast on ABC 7 (WJLA) and NewsChannel 8 in the Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia areas.

Miss America Tip-toes through the Tulips

Tulip Time's Governor's Luncheon will be without the governor this year and get a new name. Organizers snagged Miss America 2008 Kirsten Haglund as the guest of honor for the re-dubbed Tulip Time Festival Luncheon.

"It's a luncheon that has a long-standing tradition and there's a long-standing expectation in the community. ... It was a change of considerable magnitude for us," Tulip Time Executive Director Tamra Bouman said.

"To be able to secure her appearance and bring her to Tulip Time with such short notice is something we feel very good about," she said about Haglund.

Haglund will speak at the May 7 luncheon and show off her singing talents, Tulip Time organizers said. She will then ride in a horse-drawn carriage in the Volksparade.

"Once we received the notice from her office, we paused, we regrouped," Bouman said about the governor.

The governor's scheduling office notified festival organizers a few weeks ago of a conflict.

"We're not in a position to talk about why the governor is not attending, only that she is not attending," said Press Secretary Liz Boyd, later adding Granholm would be overseas. "When we do, we're certain everyone will understand the choices that had to be made."

As governor, Granholm has attended every Volksparade except in 2003. She was in Washington, D.C., for transportation funding hearings and attended the Saturday parade.

"The governor has always enjoyed her visits to the tulip festival," Boyd said

1+1= wrong USA girl being crowned...

When you're sitting at home tonight watching the Miss USA Pageant from your comfy sofa, you won't be alone. Christina Silva, who was crowned Miss California USA 2008, will be sitting at her home doing the same. Well maybe.

Silva, the beauty queen who was first crowned Miss California USA 2008 before being informed there had been a miscount, is now suing the Miss California USA and Miss Universe Organizations over the ordeal, in what her attorney calls "a sorry tale of greed, deceit, incompetence and disloyalty and their inevitable consequences."

Silva, who's former title was Miss Los Angeles, was crowned Miss California USA on Nov. 25; three days later Miss California officials informed her of a "human error" that led to the screw-up and then asked her to please call the real winner, first runner-up Raquel Beezley - Miss Barstow, to pass on the unfortunate news and let her know that she was the real winner.

Silva was told she could keep the actual crown and the $4,500 Miss California USA necklace she had been given—as well as recoup her $1,500 entry fee and compete again the next year for free—but that apparently didn't cut it for the scorned Silva.

Alleging fraudulent concealment and misrepresentation, negligence, false advertising, intentional infliction of emotional distress, breach of contract and several other charges, she is seeking at least $500,000 in damages to compensate for the "public humiliation, mental anguish and distress, lost opportunities, lost prizes and lost monies paid to and expended on her behalf."

In her account of the experience, Silva also alleges that another defendant, pageant executive director Keith Lewis, "demonstrated preferential treatment toward some of the more 'anglo-looking' contestants." Oh yes, while the Miss USA girls are the ones in Vegas competing for the Miss USA crown, Silva has decided to play her own hand of cards. Including the race card.

Silva is of Ecuadorian and Mexican descent, while Beezley is part Filipino.

Lewis publicly apologized for the incident in December, saying he was sorry Silva felt "manipulated" by the process and that the Miss California USA organization supported her "quest to seek the truth. At the end of the road, she won't find an ounce of discrimination, preferential treatment or impropriety. What she will find is a simple human error."

Silva's other claim to fame came in an recent April 2007 episode of "The Suite Life with Zack and Cody" titled "Risk It All". Ironically Silva's un-named character part on the show was titled "Prize Girl #2".

For Silva's future, her thoughts are, Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me in public, I'll see you in court. Oh we pageant folks from North Carolina know how this story goes.....

Spring edition : When Pageant Girls Go Bad!

Kira Kashie Brooks had big dreams of being the next Miss USA.

But unfortunately when she came up short on Benjamin's for her entry fee to the Miss Pompano Beach USA pageant, the 22-year-old beauty didn't look hard enough for a sponsor.

Instead, she allowed her employer, the Coral Springs Police Department, to unknowingly foot the bill for her pageant fees along with nearly $5,000 of personal expenses.

Now is it just me, or would you think stealing from the Police Department may be considered a slightly risky venture? I mean its one thing to take a few bucks from the drawer if your working at McDonalds, and tell your manager you must have given back someone the wrong change, but the City Police Department and $5000.....

Thursday, Brooks pleaded no contest to grand theft and was sentenced to three years' probation -- potentially putting an end to her quest of fame and fortune. Well if you don't count this article and the hundreds of others being written about her this week.

Brooks' efforts did get her a new photo for her portfolio, but I must say that the deputy down at the Broward County Jail knows nothing about lighting, his backgrounds are pretty plain, and his makeup/hair artist sucks.

''She wasn't milking the city for hundreds of thousands,'' said her attorney, Jahra McLawrence, adding that she has to repay the city. ``She was careless with her responsibilities and she's owned up to it.''

According to her Myspace.com page, Brooks also wanted to become Florida governor someday. Hmmm, I dont know about Florida, but they recently had an opening in New York.

According to papers filed with the Broward County courts, Brooks had the card to make purchases for office supplies while she was employed as a police department clerk from July of 2006 to October of 2007. Instead, Brooks used the card to finance her entery into the inaugural April 2007 Miss Pompano Beach USA Pageant. A win would have paved her way to the Miss Florida USA pageant. Brooks, used the card for rental cars, cell phone expenses and the $1,500 in pageant fees.

And if you want to see how your tax dollars were spent, Check out contestant number 11, Miss Kira Brooks.

Miss Illinois USA may be an undercover spy.....

Hey has anyone checked the background of Miss Illinois USA Shanon Lersch?
This girl could seriously be a Bond-girl. Either that or she is a secret agent working for InterPol searching for terrorists that are trying to infiltrate the Miss USA Pageant in-order to push their terroristic views on the world.

Her bio alone gives her away. What USA girl has these kinds of qualifications?

2007 National NBA All Star Dancer
Washington DC Leadership Summit Representative
Research Assistant / Center For Disease Control
Research Assistant / Chicago Recovery Alliance
DePaul University Graduate Assistant
Juvenile Court Assistant
General Motors Scholarship
Amoco Foundation Scholarship
Tylenol Scholarship

See she tried to fool you with that NBA Dancer line, but what the hell is the rest of that stuff? Government and Big Corporate America..... Hello!?!

For interview she was asked what is the craziest thing you have ever done?
She replied, Sky Diving over Lake Michigan.

And when asked what is the most important thing you want the judges to know about you?

Shanon replied:
I have been fortunate to travel extensively internationally, such as Japan, Greece, Cyprus, Mexico, and the Netherlands, affording me the opportunity to experience several cultures firsthand. In addition, I just returned from Turkey as a Professional Model, Dancer, and Spokesperson. The volunteering that I have done throughout the years has given me a great sense of understanding about the people around me and the organizations I have participated in. I have a positive attitude toward education and an intense desire to succeed. I am ambitious, energetic, and caring. I will obtain my PhD in Education and Social Policy and publish my book “The Impact of Music in Education.” My personal motto is to always be a first rate version of yourself instead of a second rate version of someone else. A good example is better than good advice.

Again, she tries to throw off her scent by throwing that Caitlyn Upton "Such As" in the first line, but then she goes on to give herself away by talking about all those countries that she's traveled to on secret missions where she dropped in by parachute wearing all black. People, people, people... Open your eyes. This one was easy to spot!

And lastly here is a link to a TOP SECRET video I found that has another Interpol undercover agent, Jelena Kostic, that also competed in Miss Illinois communicating in some secret coded language to her fellow undercover contacts.... Spies! Spies, I tell you!

You might be a redneck....

No word yet on what, where, why this image was taken a the Miss USA Pageant. If I were a bet'n man I would guess that this is Miss West Virginia dancin' with 'er cousin. Ya'll mountaineers watch out for her now... Der's weddin' chapels on every corner in Vegas. She might get'r self disqualified by pageant day.

It's either that or Miss USA is going for a "Where Are They Now?" angle and has brought back Corky from "Life Goes On" as a celebrity judge for the pageant.
Man if so I hope they sit him next to Heather Mills....
What a pair those two would be.

SUNDAY, SUNDAY, SUNDAY!!!

"Start your engines” is the command that Miss America 2008 Kirsten Haglund will give at 2:40 EST on Sunday for the start of one of the most thrilling events in sports racing, the Indy Racing League's, St. Petersburg Grand Prix.

Well that's if you don't count the The Bud Shootout, the Daytona 500, pretty much any NASCAR race at Bristol Motor Speedway, the Indianapolis 500, the Formula 1 US Grand Prix,.... Well you get the point..... Don't B.S. about racin' with a guy from Charlotte! We know our stuff!

Pageants cost an arm and a leg!

Well maybe not all of them, but this one sure does.

Miss Agusta Urica was just crowned the world's first ever Miss Landmine in Angola on Wednesday. Miss Landmine???? Are you thinking, "What is that exactly?"

The concept for Miss Landmine was born four years ago when the pageant founder (a Norwegian theater director named Morten Traavik) traveled to the African country of Angola. While in the country's capital, Luanda, he was struck by two things, luckily neither of them was a landmine...

First, by the country's landmine problem resulting from more than 20 years of civil war. Though Angola's civil war ended six years ago, as many as 8 million landmines remain buried throughout the country. These landmines have left an estimated 80,000 amputee survivors in their wake.

Second, the Angolans' love for beauty pageants.

Who doesn't love a good 'ol tiara and some sequins????

Traavik figured that a pageant could help raise awareness of the plight of landmine amputee survivors in Angola.

"There is no sensationalistic intentions within Miss Landmine," Traavik said. "Of course, the format has been chosen because it's obviously a very media-friendly forum, but it still is based very, very much on local culture, since beauty pageants are such a consistent phenomenon in Angolan contemporary culture."

Women representing each of the nation's 18 provinces competed Wednesday in the nationally televised event. Using crutches and artificial limbs, they strutted the catwalk twice — once in traditional robes of their province and once in evening gowns.

"They showed that they can, that they are able," said a government official after the pageant competition.

No word on if talent is being considered as an optional for next years competition, all though thats a tap dance routine I would pay good money to watch! And what the hell is Heather Mills doing in Vegas with the USA chicks. This is the pageant she should be supporting!

Detroit Tigers were given the Royal treatment.

Reigning Miss America and Detroit-area native Kirsten Haglund was at the center of the Tigers' Opening Day festivities, performing the national anthem and throwing out the ceremonial first pitch before the Tigers / Royals game on Monday, March 31 at Comerica Park.

Haglund is from Farmington Hills, Mich.
She also performed God Bless America during the 7th inning stretch.

Unfortunately the Tiger's lost the game to the Royals 4-0.
So I'm guessing she won't be invited back! ;)

Music for the disabled.

Finger Eleven will perform their hit song "Paralyzer" live at this year's Miss USA pageant. Following hitting #1 on the Rock and Alternative charts, the song also became a crossover smash on the contemporary hit radio charts, selling over two million digital downloads and 500,000 ring tones. The band will perform an extended arrangement of "Paralyzer" live for just shy of nine minutes, integrated in to the competition. This is one of the longest live musical performances, if not the longest, in broadcast television history during prime-time.

Miss NC gets a sportscar!

Winning Miss NC could turn out to be a better deal than winning Miss America. Last year the Miss NC committee worked in a fully furnished apartment in an exclusive Raleigh neighborhood. This year they have stepped up the game by adding a lease on new Porsche Boxster Convertible to the prize package for Miss NC for the year.

Hendrick Porsche of Charlotte, NC is providing the leased car for the term of Miss NC reign and Geico Insurance is picking up the tab for insuring her new ride. Thank you little lizard guy!

Now if she could get an unlimited gas card she would be set!!!
