McCain Picks a Beauty!

Republican Presidential nominee John McCain has slated Sarah Palin, current Governor of Alaska and a former beauty queen as his Vice-Presidential running mate!

In 1984, Palin was second-place in the Miss Alaska beauty pageant after winning the Miss Wasilla contest earlier that year, winning a scholarship to help pay her way through college. In the Wasilla pageant, she played the flute and also won Miss Congeniality. Her husband, Todd Palin was a judge in the 2008 Miss Alaska Pageant.

Well if McCain wins, she won't be the first flute player to see the oval office.... (cough, cough, Lewinski).

PageantPatty Barbie is about to get paid!!!

Somebody call Ken because he's getting lucky tonight and FYI Barbie is buying!!!

A Federal jury has just awarded Mattel Inc., the manufacturer of Barbie, $40 million in a copyright case against maker of Bratz dolls.

The Bratz dolls are designed by a former employee of Mattel, and a jury has decided that the designer came up with the Bratz idea while he was still working for Mattel. Bratz won't be hurting for mascara money for their big 'ol eyes.
According to some estimates, the Bratz line brings in about $500 mil a year.
Cha-Ching!!! That's some major pageant girl coinage !!

Everybody was Kung-fu Fightin'

The reigning Miss Washington County was arrested last week after allegedly entering her ex-boyfriend’s home in Frostburg, Md., and punching another woman in the face, police said.

Christie Ganoe, 22, of Cumberland, Md., was charged with one count each of second-degree assault and fourth-degree burglary, according to court records.

Frostburg Police Cpl. Irvin Buskirk said police were called Wednesday to a reported problem at Ganoe’s ex-boyfriend’s home on Mill Street.

Ganoe was there and police took her home, Buskirk said.

However, she returned, entered the home and punched a woman in the head, Buskirk said. The other woman didn’t require medical attention, but she was holding a package of frozen peas against her head, he said.

(Peas!!! You gotta love a detective that notices the details!)

Ganoe was released on her own recognizance, according to an Allegany County District Court commissioner. A court appearance has been scheduled for Oct. 20.

There was no indication Monday whether the charges would affect Ganoe’s standing as Miss Washington County.

Ganoe couldn’t be reached Monday at a Cumberland phone number listed as a contact number for her at the time of the pageant.

Miss Washington County pageant officials also couldn’t be reached for comment.

Courtney Thomas, the business manager for Miss Maryland, said the organization wouldn’t comment now.

Mike Allegretto, the director of operations at the Miss America Organization headquarters in Linwood, N.J., said the organization recently heard about the arrest and was looking into it.

He said the decision about what, if anything, might happen is made at the local level, with guidance from the Miss America Organization.

Ganoe was crowned Miss Washington County in February at Hagerstown Community College’s Kepler Theater, earning a $2,000 cash scholarship.

Her platform for the pageant was
"TO EDUCATE PEOPLE TO HELP PREVENT BULLYING".
(I DO NOT MAKE THIS STUFF UP PEOPLE!!!!!)

Contestants ages 17 to 24 years old who live, work or attend school in Washington, Frederick, Allegany or Garrett counties are eligible to be Miss Washington County.
And apparently having one hell of a right cross helps too!

In June, Ganoe competed as Miss Washington County in the Miss Maryland competition at The Maryland Theatre, but she wasn’t among the 10 semifinalists.

Last year, Ganoe was chosen Miss Cumberland.

A pageant for corn......

Yes its that time of year again. When dozens of ears of corn all gather together in the tiny rural town of Hoopeston, Illinois for the Hoopeston SweetCorn Festival. And no you can't have a real festival without having a festival pageant.
The Hoopeston Jaycees also invited all of the 2nd, 3rd, and sometimes 4th most beautiful and talented girls from Miss America State pageants to come to Hoopeston to join in on a battle-royal known simply as the National Sweetheart Pageant.

This year, 39 Miss America state pageants took the call and will be represented at the National Sweetheart Pageant during the Labor Day weekend.

It’s kind of billed as an impressive number for the tiny town of about 6,000 people.
Well lets be honest, really its not. I mean I'm no math major, but adding 39 people to a population of 6000 is just over one half of one percent of the general population, so its not like race weekend in Concord or something..... When they get 250,000 to show up, then we will all stand and applaud. Anyway, back to the story....

The pageant’s claim to fame is being a stepping stone to the Miss America Pageant.

“If they are interested in coming, they contact us as soon as the state pageants are done,” said Dolores Crabtree, retired Sweetheart chairman.

This year her son Clifford Crabtree, (No I am not making this up) will take the helm for the pageant.

"I just plan to sit on the sidelines and watch Cliff do all the legwork," Dolores said with a laugh.

She has been a part of the pageant for more than 20 years, serving as chairman the last decade.

The biggest part of the project is getting the Sweetheart’s profiles and photos to the news media and into the Jaycee program books, Dolores said.

Contestants stay with local residents who voluntarily open their homes each year during the pageant’s week-long preparations. The women spend the week learning about Hoopeston, visiting businesses and local organizations and practicing their competition routines.

Preliminaries for the competition begin at 7 p.m. Friday and continue at 7 p.m. Saturday. The final night begins at 7 p.m. Sunday. It is awards night and is when the 2008 Miss National Sweetheart will be crowned.

“It’s quite hectic, but if you’ve got good chairmen who know how to run their parts, everything falls smoothly in place,” said Liz Brewster, president of the Jaycees, “It takes a lot of projects and chairmen to make the Sweetcorn Festival go off with a bang.”

Hmmm, I wonder why she didn't say POP??

Best of luck to Miss SC's Sweetheart, Grace Wepner.
And a special thank you and good luck to my sweetheart Miss Va's Sweetheart Shannon Beam for providing me with some great (and corny) photos from the upcoming weekends activities! Remember girls, its buttered, use two hands!

Our Lady of the Bejeweled Crown

An Italian priest and theologian said Sunday he is organizing an online beauty pageant for nuns to give them more visibility within the Catholic Church and to fight the stereotype that they are all old and dour.

The "Miss Sister 2008" contest will start in September on a blog run by the Rev. Antonio Rungi and will give nuns from around the world a chance to showcase their work and their image.

"Nuns are a bit excluded, they are a bit marginalized in ecclesiastical life," Rungi told The Associated Press after Italian media carried reports of the idea. "This will be an occasion to make their contribution more visible."

Rungi, a theologian and schoolteacher from the Naples area, said that visitors to his site will have a month to "vote for the nun they consider a model."

Nuns will fill out a profile including information about their life and vocation as well as a photograph. It will be up to them to choose whether to pose with the traditional veil or with their heads uncovered.

"We are not going to parade nuns in bathing suits," Rungi said by telephone from his town of Mondragone. "But being ugly is not a requirement for becoming a nun. External beauty is gift from God, and we mustn't hide it."

Rungi said the idea was first suggested to him by nuns with whom he regularly prays and works. He hopes there will be dozens of submissions once the Web site is started.

The contest drew criticism from the association of Catholic teachers.

"It's an initiative that belittles the role of nuns who have dedicated themselves to God," the group's president, Alberto Giannino, told Italy's ANSA news agency on Sunday.

Miss Paraguay contestant is also an Olympian

Paraguay's javelin thrower Leryn Franco finished next to last in the Olympic qualifying round but she virtually won the topless gold medal with her recent topless calendar photos.

The Beijing Olympics organizers must have gone berzerk for the hype around Leryn Franco's topless calendar photos. She, and her spicy photos, are the talk of town in Beijing.

She's not really good in her sport, javelin throw, but Leryn Franco is by far the hottest player of Beijing Olympic 2008 Games.

Leryn has been wobbling between sports and beauty contests for awhile now. In 2006 she was the runner-up in the Miss Paraguay pageant and also competed in the Miss Bikini Universe pageant the same year. She also competed in the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece.

The 26 year-old beauty won't be forgotten soon despite her miserable performance at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Her topless photos and her calendar will certainly keep the spotlight on Leryn's beauty for a long while.

ARRESTED AGAIN!!!

Well Miss SC got some great news after winning the national Miss America's Outstanding Teen Pageant in Orlando this weekend, but the great news and smiles didn't last long in the SparkleCity.

More sex charges have been filed against Joey Sanders of the Miss South Carolina Pageant. Sanders has been accused of molesting a 12-year-old girl in Easley, SC and in Pickens County over the past three years, according to arrest warrants.

Joseph Pettigrew Sanders IV, 44, of 237 Sanders Road in Liberty, was arrested yesterday and charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and lewd act on a minor, Pickens County Sheriff David Stone said.

Sanders’ attorney, Bill Coates, said the charges were false and that Sanders "anticipates being exonerated at trial." Coates probably also contacted the Mercedes-Benz dealership in Greenville to place his order on a shiney new silver AMG Mercedes Benz. No matter what the result, when this is all said and done, someone in the Miss South Carolina Organization is going to have to write one hell of a big check to quite a few folks!

You might remember that Sanders was arrested by the Easley Police Department on two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor under the age of 11 in connection with a girl’s complaint this summer that she was molested in an Easley Comfort Inn during 2005, according to arrest warrants.

The new charges allege that Sanders sexually assaulted the girl as recently as March 2007, according to warrants.

Up until July, Sanders had been acting as Vice President and Executive Director of the Miss South Carolina Organization.

Sanders’ father, Joe Sanders III and president and CEO of the Miss South Carolina Organization, said Wednesday he had no comment and referred questions to Coates.

Also facing new charges in Pickens County in connection with the allegations is Anita Jordan Gearhart, 52, of 108 McDaniel Ave. in Easley. Ms. Gearhart served as the nurse for the Miss SC Pageant and has been rumored to have been dating Joey Sanders at the time.

Pickens County authorities arrested Gearhart on Wednesday and charged her with unlawful conduct toward a child, Stone said. An arrest warrant alleges that Gearhart didn’t protect the girl after she learned of the alleged abuse.

Pickens County Assistant Sheriff Tim Morgan and Easley Police Maj. Tim Tollison said the alleged abuse wasn’t related to any pageant activities although the girl in question has participated in the pageant as a Palmetto Princess.

Sanders was released from jail again on a $20,000 secured bond, and Gearhart was out on a $20,000 personal recognizance bond.

RPM Productions falls just short at TeenUSA

It has to be a mix of emotions down in Aiken, SC this week. All three of Paula Miles' Teen USA franchises, NC, SC, and LA, made the top 5 at the Miss Teen USA pageant. This is an accomplishment that few directors in any pageant system will ever have. Unfortunately though, when the results were announced, none of Paula's girls were crowned the winner.

The crown eventually went to another southerner, Stevi Lauren Perry, Miss Arkansas Teen USA. Stevi is 18 and lives in Hamburg, Arkansas.

"Days of Our Lives" star and former Miss Teen USA 2004 Shelley Hennig joined Seth Goldman of NBC's "Entertainment Buzz" to emcee the pageant, and female R&B local sensation TaDa performed. Needless to say without television revenue, the budget for entertainment and judges was little less this year. We can only hope that "The Donald" is able to secure another network TV deal for pageants in the future.

The judges for this year's competition included:
Alina Shriver, Founder of Shriver Art
Farouk Shami, Founder and Chairman Farouk Systems
Heather Kerzner of Kerzner International
Alicia Bridgewater, Bookings Editor at Cosmo Girl Magazine
Duane Gazi, Director of Scouting and Development at Trump Model Mgmt.
Eric Parrinello, founder and owner of Bacchanalia Private Dining
David Dzanis, VP of Coca Cola Client Serv. at Genesco Sports Enterprises
Seth Mayeri, Television Talent Veteran

Final Results:
First Runner Up: Brittany Pjetraj, Miss South Carolina Teen USA
Second Runner Up: Julia Dalton, Miss North Carolina Teen
Third Runner Up: Lindsey Evans, Miss Louisiana Teen USA
Fourth Runner Up: Shareece Laree Pfeiffer, Miss Idaho Teen USA

Top Fifteen: Courtney Parker, Miss Alabama Teen USA
Ashley Stainton, Miss Arizona Teen USA
Stevi Lauren Perry, Miss Arkansas Teen USA
Taylor Atkins, Miss California Teen USA
Danielle Rose Scimeca, Miss Colorado Teen USA
Jillian Leigh Wunderlich, Miss Florida Teen USA
Shareece Laree Pfeiffer, Miss Idaho Teen USA
Lindsey Evans, Miss Louisiana Teen USA
Caroline Lunny, Miss Massachusetts Teen USA
Courtney Morgan, Miss New Hampshire Teen USA
Julia Dalton, Miss North Carolina Teen USA
Taylor Gorton, Miss Oklahoma Teen USA
Elliot Griffin, Miss Pennsylvania Teen USA
Brittany Pjetraj, Miss South Carolina Teen USA
Megan Leigh Myrehn, Miss Virginia Teen USA

When you wish upon a star....

Miss NC's OT Mya Hipps is living a dream of a lifetime while attending the Miss America's Outstanding Teen Pageant in Orlando, Fl. Here's a shot of Mya in evening gown and opening number contestant introductions.

Photos courtesy - Miss NC Organization

Miss NC is one step away from Miss America

OK maybe she's even closer than that! Amanda Watson, Miss NC 2009 had the opportunity to meet Kirsten Haglund, current Miss America at the Miss America's Outstanding Teen Pageant and have her photo made with her. The crown just inches from her head....

"My precious...." Sorry had a "Lord of the Rings" moment there.

Anywho.... Based on height, I think Amanda could take her in a backyard game of one-on-one. You never know though... Those Michigan vs UNC games are always tight. Well, unless its football in which case UNC doesnt stand a chance unless they go up to Boone and get all the App players to wear Carolina uniforms! LOL

Photo history 101

Miss NC's OT - Mya Hipps
Miss SC's OT - Taylor Hanna Finch

Our "Carolina Girls" had a photoshoot in gowns provided by Tony Bowls and shot by MAO Teen photographer Zac Grimaldo. It was a great way to start off their week at the 2009 Miss America's Outstanding Teen competition. If the photos look familiar, its because Zac picked the same set-up Fadil Berisha used for the Miss USA Pageant this year. And if those looked familiar, its because your's truly was doing it 5 years ago when most of these girls were learning their multiplication tables...

Miss Universe has boobs... but no bra!

Miss Universe 2008, Venezuela's Dayana Mendoza, has come under fire this week as an ad campaign featuring her almost completely nude has been discovered.

The 22-year-old Venezuelan beauty stripped most of it off for a sexy jewelry ad campaign before signing on as a contestant. The President of the Miss Universe Organization jumped to the defense of her queen. Paula M. Shugart said: "Dayana is not in jeopardy of losing the title. "We embrace and respect her success as a model and the artistic beauty captured in these photographs. They are artistic in nature and don't have an ounce of pornographic content to them."

If you ask me, the ad campaign picture is pretty tame. If there's an uprising to remove her crown, those people crying out for it should be at least shot in the kneecap for being uptight morons. It's a good thing Britney Spears didn't win Miss Universe. I've seen every inch of her body and she wasn't paid a dime for showing me. Not only would they take Britney's crown away, she'd be put in stocks in the town square and the village children would be given rocks to stone her.

Here is a shot of Deyana explaining how much she cares about the topless controversy...

Gastonia - Great Place. Great People. Great Promise.

The city of Gastonia lived up to its tagline today as they crowned 4 new queens. Gaston College's Myers Auditorium is always a "Great Place" for the pageant. Its the perfect size for a Miss NC preliminary and every seat in the house is great.

The afternoon's OT pageant featured 8 "Great People" competing for the titles of Miss Gastonia's Outstanding Teen and Miss Gaston County's Outstanding Teen. Since Mya Hipps, former Miss Gastonia's Outstanding Teen won the title of Miss North Carolina's Outstanding Teen back in Raleigh most of the days activities were handled beautifully by Miss Gaston County's OT, Tiffany Payne, who was also a Top 10 Finalist in Raleigh. However Mya's 1st Runner-up, Victoria VanDyke - Miss Mt. Holly's OT was there for crowning to lend Tiffany a hand in Mya's absence.

The winners of the 2009 Gastonia / Gaston County Outstanding Teen Pageant were
Miss Gastonia's OT - Logan Freeman
Miss Gaston Co's OT - Sarah Ashley

After a few hours break, the judges were back on the hotseat as they had to pick a new set of girls to represent Miss Gastonia and Miss Gaston County. The contest featured 13 girls and was loaded with lots of former title holders from some of the top NC pageant systems. Talent was like watching "So You Think You Can Dance". It featured 11 dancers out of the 13 contestants. When the smoke cleared a tapper and a modern dancer stood on top.

Miss Gastonia - Laura Page
Miss Gaston Co - Jessica Lackey

So you're wondering where the "Great Promise" is?? Well I only mentioned 4 beautiful and talented girls that all took home the crowns tonight. What I failed to mention was the many other 17 girls that also took part in today's pageants. Many of these girls showed "Great Promise" and I am sure we will see a few at the Miss Mecklenburg preliminary in January and a few other open pageants later this year. The other stat to notice on the Miss Gastonia Pageant website is that a lot of these girls are very young for the Miss NC system. That means they have plenty of time to keep working on their platforms, talent, public speaking, and get ready to come back and compete for the title of Miss Gastonia for years to come.

Meet Virginia

Getting To Know ... Tara Wheeler, Miss Virginia
By David Schultz/The Connection

FIRST she was Miss Arlington. Then she was Miss Virginia. Now, Tara Wheeler is trying to become Miss America. Late last month, Wheeler won the Miss Virginia pageant, earning the right to compete in the storied Miss America competition.

In an interview with the Arlington Connection, Wheeler talked about her diverse interests, her route to pageant success and how pageant contestants are perceived in the media.

What did it feel like to be named Miss Virginia?

I really felt like I did the abolute best I could and if it didn’t happen for me then it just wasn’t my time. I was really calm leading up to it but then when they called my name you have this moment of disbelief. Then I saw the first runner-up walk away and I thought “Ok, it’s really me. I’m Miss Virginia.” Then I started crying like a fool.

Did you feel like you had put in a really strong performance? Did you think you were going to win?

I never came into it thinking, “Ok, I’ve got this. I’m gonna win.” I came in believing that I could win and believing that I could do the job well. I honestly believe that I was the best for the job and that if you don’t go into everything you do believing that you can be successful, than it’s a waste of time.

How were you chosen as Miss Arlington?

With every Miss America local and state competition, you’re judged on the same thing. I came in there and you have the on-stage stuff which is evening gown, swimsuit, talent and on-stage questions. With the swimsuit [competition], they’re not looking for the skinniest girl with curves in all the right places. They’re looking for someone who takes care of themselves and is physically fit and is confident with who they are. If you show that sort of devotion at the gym, you’ll probably carry that over to other aspects of your life. That’s why swimsuit will always be an important part of the Miss America pageant. For the evening gown, I wore a gown that was given to me. They’re not necessarily looking for the super-expensive gowns. For talent, it can be anything. I’ve seen a girl break a board with her head in a karate demonstration. Every girl’s talent is unique. I happen to sing, which is kind of boring. I sang “At Last” by Etta James.

How did you get involved in pageantry? How long have you been doing this for?

I’ve been doing this for about three years. I grew up kind of as a tomboy. I did a lot of tomboy things. I grew up playing hockey since the third grade. I got to try out for the women’s Olympic team. I was a cadet in the Air Force so I went through boot camp. I did this all before I decided to try to do pageants. A lot of girls have been doing this al their lives.

What did you do to prepare for the Miss Virginia competition?

I did a lot of mock interviews and I had a sponsorship from Curves gym and I had a personal trainer in Alexandria. Aside from that, the best way to get ready is to work on your community service pageant. As a title-holder you’re a spokesperson for the organization. By getting out there in the community that was the best way that I prepared. I prepared as if I were Miss Virginia and that’s how hard I worked.

Are you excited about competing in the Miss America pageant?

I’m really excited. They say that you’re more likely to have a son in the Super Bowl than have a daughter grace the Miss America stage. So that in itself is quite an honor. I’m excited but at the same time I’m a little nervous. You only get one shot at it. But this year they’re doing a reality show and sometimes that makes me a little nervous. I know how easy it is to edit things and just the lack of control over how you’re portrayed. I did the boot camp thing and the hockey thing and I just don’t want to be made into a gimmick. That’s the thing that I’m a little nervous about. But, overall, I’m really excited and I’m looking forward to representing Virginia the best I can.

Have you seen any of the reality shows that are based on people who compete in pageants? What do you think of those?

They’re disappointing. The media likes to grab onto things that reinforce negative stereotypes. Honestly, there are a few girls in pageants, as there are in any activity, that typify the negative stereotypes. But those girls are few and far between. We’re doing so many great things. I was invited to the United Nations but that would never be put in a reality show because it’s not catty or negative. So it’s disappointing that that’s the kind of attention that pageants get. But I’m hoping that, because I’m a different kind of contestant, that hopefully I can get some positive attention because I’m so different.

What will be the first thing you will do if you are crowned Miss America?

I have no idea. I’ll probably cry like a bigger fool than I did when I won Miss Virginia. If I won, I would just be incredibly honored. If I was Miss America, I would be put in a position where I would have a lot of influence and I don’t want to take that for granted.

Mullins, SC pageant cancelled

The 2008 Golden Leaf pageants schedule for this weekend have been cancelled. Organizers said in the application packet that they needed AT LEAST THREE CONTESTANTS in each category to make the pageant a go and that the pageant committee would cancel the pageant is there was not enough participation. A Mullins City Hall employee has confirmed the pageant has been cancelled for Saturday.

The Golden Leaf festival is unaffected by the change and is set for Sept. 27 in Smithhaven Park and downtown Mullins. The annual festival draws a crowd of several thousands to Mullins for the day and begins with a 10 a.m. parade down Main Street. For information about the festival or pageants, call (843) 464-5200.

McCain wants his wife to do a pageant

John McCain was campaigning out in Sturgis, SD this week. The small town is widely known for its once a year Harley-Davidson Bike week. During the campaign stop McCain commented that his wife should consider entering the Miss Buffalo Chip Pageant that is held that week.
Well, I guess John didn't realize that the annual pageant is topless...
Or maybe he did.
If you ask me, those presidential candidates will do anything for a vote.

Maoists say "No Dice", to Miss Nepal Pageant

Press Trust Of India / Kathmandu

Intensifying their campaign against the Miss Nepal contest, a group of Maoists today stormed the offices of the pageant’s Indian sponsor, Dabur, and the event organizer and locked out their staff.

About 50 Maoists, led by Amrita Thapa, General Secretary of the All Nepal Women’s Organization, forced their way into the office of Hidden Treasure, the organizer of “Dabur Vatika Miss Nepal,” which was to be held today but was put off indefinitely following threats by the Maoists.

“They locked up our office at 11am and did not allow anyone to enter,” said Girendra Man Rajbanshi, managing director of the company.

An hour later, the group went to the head office of FMCG giant Dabur Nepal at Tinkune near Tribhuvan International Airport and asked the staff to come out before locking up the office, a police official said.

The Maoist-affiliated organization has targeted the pageant at a time the former rebels are involved in hectic negotiations with other parties to lead a new government. The outfits, supported by two dozen other Left organizations, launched the month-long campaign against the pageant saying it was promoting feudal and capitalistic ideology.

Security has been beefed up at the two offices. But the event’s organizer said it would not be intimidated and would hold the pageant at an appropriate time.

“They don’t have right to close down my office,” said Rajbanshi. “This is not a democratic way to close down a private office by exerting pressure and threat. We will definitely organize the show at an appropriate time,” he said.

Those crazy NC girls rockin out at the Teen Choice Awards

Anybody picked up the latest issue of TeenBeat Magazine? All I have to say is, I think one of the Jonas Brothers might be adopted.... and I ain't sayin which one. OMG I can't even believe I know who they are. This is so sad.

Anywho, This weekend Kenzie Dalton, sister of current Miss NC Teen USA Julia Dalton was spotted out with her fiancé, Chad Micheal Murray. The two were hanging out in LA and having a little dinner at STK. Then the two took in the Teen Choice Awards where CMM took home a Teen Choice Surfboard. No word on if there were any awkward run-ins with former CMM love interest, Sophia Bush. Now that would be a great Celebrity Death Match! All those Dalton's are pretty wire'y" but I bet they can scrap!

Concord, North Carolina was also represented by former Miss NC Teen USA, Melissa Lingafelt. Melissa chilled on the couch with long time boyfriend Drake Bell who was a presenter at the awards. Melissa looked great. There for awhile I was gettin on to her about being too skinny.

She's famous, but I can still say I knew her when....

Ice Cream - It's for Breakfast!!!

Tune in to "FOX & Friends" on Tuesday, August 5, at 7AM EST to see Miss America 2008 Kirsten Haglund. Kirsten will appear on national television to discuss her role as honorary spokesperson for annual Dairy Queen Miracle® Treat Day.

Blizzards® are in the forecast for August 7, and that’s just what a whole lot of folks throughout North America are looking forward to. On Thursday, participating Dairy Queen® and DQ Grill & Chill® locations will celebrate the third-annual Miracle Treat Day and donate proceeds from every Blizzard sold that day to Children’s Miracle Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for children’s hospitals.

(Ironically, I am listening to U2's "Sundae Bloody Sundae" right now...)

“I am honored to be a spokesperson for Miracle Treat Day, as I know this event will do so much to help children in local hospitals throughout North America,” said Kirsten.

Dairy Queen has been a supporter of Children’s Miracle Network since 1984, raising more than $70 million during that time. And will continue to help add hundreds of calories to the US diet for years to come.

Queen James II of Statesville

Photo- PageantPics.com

What's hot in pageantry tonight?

Well the fire was at West Iredell High School tonight in Statesville where Whitney James was the winner of the 2009 Miss Statesville Pageant. This will be Whitney's second trip to Miss NC. Two years ago, Whitney competed as Miss Mecklenburg and was a Top 10 finalist. Whitney faced some tough competition and there were a few girls on the Miss Statesville stage that we are sure to see at future Miss Statesville pageants, if not sooner.

The night was highlighted by appearances of Miss NC Amanda Watson and Miss NC's Outstanding Teen Mya Hipps. The two state queens are busy making travel plans and preparations. Mya is getting ready to head out to Orlando for the Miss America's Outstanding Teen Pageant and Amanda will be heading out for a month to tape the reality show "Miss America Reality Check". Good luck to both our girls!

And it was a tearful night as we had to say goodbye to Kaitlyn "Katie" Cook, Miss Statesville 2008. Katie's rollercoaster of a year was capped off with a Top 5 finish and Miss Congeniality award at Miss NC. Tonight it was announced that the Miss Statesville Pageant Congeniality Award will now be named in her honor. Katie plans to take some time off and focus on school, but she is not ruling out any future pageant plans.... : )

Other 2009 finalists and award winners included
1st RU Holland Felts
2nd RU Ashley Lail
3rd RU Brittany Chambers

3 way tie swimsuit- Brittany Chambers, Ashley Lail & Holland Felts
